Goaltender Development Institute
A decade of brand for a national goaltending academy
The Problem
The Goaltender Development Institute grew from a regional academy into a national network, and it needed a brand that could grow with it. One identity that held together across regions, seasons, print, and web, and a coaching philosophy that parents and players could actually understand at a glance.
The Work
For most of a decade I ran GDI's entire visual identity and marketing engine out of my studio, Maxim Digital. That meant owning the whole system, not a single project:
- Identity and brand architecture. The core shield mark, plus a five-region sub-brand system (East, West, Midwest, Northwest, Southeast) that let each region feel local while staying unmistakably GDI.
- Web. A WordPress site, built and maintained, that carried registration, schedules, and the program story.
- Print, every season. Annual program guides, rink posters, and magazine ads, designed and prepared for production with bleeds.
- The long haul. As the academy became the national "GDI USA," I evolved the system to carry it, including the ten-year anniversary mark.
Impact
One coherent brand, sustained across nearly a decade and every surface a growing sports organization touches, from a shield on a jersey to a national program guide. It is the longest client relationship I have held, and the clearest proof that I can own a brand end to end and keep it consistent as the thing it represents grows.
