Calafai

The tool I built to augment myself, that became a company

Role: Founder & CEO Timeline: 2026 - present Company: Calafai B.V.

The Origin

I spent fifteen years building products and platforms for other people's businesses: broadcast at Discovery, intelligence-analysis software for the U.S. defense and intelligence community, a decade at Nike. The whole time, a smaller version of Calafai existed as a habit nobody saw. I built my own tools to do strategy work faster than the process around me allowed, and I kept them to myself.

I had the idea for years. I had the skills for years. What I did not have was the nerve to trade a paycheck and a title for a business that lives or dies on whether the work is good enough on its own. Corporate is a comfortable place to postpone a bet on yourself.

What It Became

In 2026 I stopped postponing it. We founded Calafai on the tool I had already built: the one that does the analytical groundwork and keeps its sourcing visible so the judgment stays human. Calafai pulls together everything I picked up across design, engineering, strategy, and intelligence analysis and points it at other people's hardest decisions. It means senior strategy work on demand, quality-scored, source-verified, always steered by a named person who owns the result. Some of that work is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): reading how AI assistants describe a brand and fixing what they get wrong. Most of it is the same strategy work I used to do by hand, done faster and checked harder.

The Principle

Calafai is the superhero cape, not the superhero. It gives you the powers. You still steer, own, and defend the result.
